Building a home with Scandinavian is a decision that will have a huge impact on our lives and our children.
Trends come and go, but with a life changing effort like building a sustainable house, quality and reliability are the key factors to success. The secret to our homes is in the natural wood product and the nature of the quality of our wood. As a building material, wood has fantastic thermal mass value and makes an excellent building material also because of its suitability for different usages. Our walls are not treated with toxic chemicals and they come from sustainable forests, which are required to replant felled trees. We use very little energy in our manufacturing, because of our automated production lines are from year 2008.
The energy that we use at factory comes from our own manufacturing process. This process uses wood waste as an environmentally friendly energy source and that guarantees minimal impact on nature. It’s healthy to live and breath in a Scandinavian home. Scandinavian houses and cottages have healthy and fresh indoor air quality.
Wall structure is not sealed with plastics or chemicals, therefore it breaths and doesn’t provide conditions for microbes, fungus or allergenic dust. During winter your Scandinavian home is comfortably warm and during summer your home will be soothingly cool. In order to ensure the high quality of our products our factory works with the Technical Research Centre of Finland. Laminated solid walls, finger-jointed lumber and gluelam support structures have all been certified by the VTT.
Laminated solid walls combine the traditional building trade with the latest top-notch techniques and production. Using special machinery our factory produces high-quality laminated walls, which allow the creation of most unique construction alternatives. The natural twisting and cracking of the wood has been controlled, and the laminated walls are produced with perfectly precise dimensions.
A number of different corner and joint solutions are available for laminated walls. Sturdy trimmings ensure the efficient grip of seams. Furthermore, we are prepared to carry out any other solutions requiring special skills. In bevelled corner solutions corners may range steplessly from 45 to 90 degrees.
Some of the still existing interlocking homes were built in the 1800’s and are still in good structural shape.
This is like a good wine, it increases its value over time.
Some of the houses built in the 1800’s didn’t have modern preservatives or stains, but when houses are built right, it will last many generations.
First Generation interlocking homes were built in the early years was to provide excellent protection against enemies and weather conditions.
Modern day Scandinavian homes still respect all original values. It is providing ultra high-end living environment without sacrificing the massiveness of the structure.
What is Sustainability? (Regarding the U.S. dictionary)
Sustainability means: “Living a life of dignity in harmony with nature – Renewing resources at a rate equal to or greater than the rate at which they are consumed”
Sustainablity come from the many parts of its operation. We are sustainable for the reason of producing pre-cut building components, minimizing waste material and cutting on building sites.
All components are engineered for precise fit. Doesn’t matter how custom it gets. We are sustainable for the reason that we only use timbers from sustainable, maintained forest of Finland. Its factory produces its own energy, does not provide any pollution and meets the highest level of green building standards in Europe.
Forestry in Finland is doing extremely well and produces new trees every year more that is cut. Growth season is short and giving opportunity for the trees to grow in a maintain forest which provides the highest quality of wood components which many people are comparing to furniture quality lumber. Its short growth season also makes wood extremely dense due to slow growth and its material is considered a “hard” wood.
We are sustainable for the reason that our building system pre-cutting. Components are delivered straight from the factory to your building site and following instructions, the hardest part of the construction turns easy.
Why we keep preaching about healthy lifestyle in Scandinavian Homes?
Its interlocking structure is built out of solid wood and non-breathable materials are less used.
As we know that wood “breathes” better than artificial components. This means that air is able to flow in both directions. This results in air that is fresh and feels good. New production methods and processing technologies over the recent years have progressed to alleviate the problems of air not circulating well.
What is Thermal Mass? Scandinavian Sustainable Building System is naturally energy efficient. The thermal mass capacity of the walls is higher than those of brick or concrete walls of the same thickness. Wood stores heat, then releases it when it becomes cooler inside. As a result, the overall energy efficiency of our system is better than that of comparable structures.
Wood Protects – While wood is energy efficient, it also protects. A well designed home will have no humidity on the wood structure, reducing the chance of decay and parasites. By designing overhanging roofs, proper water drainage systems and by sealing the connection between the wood and the ground, the house will never stay humid for long. Rain beads off, and the wood dries quickly in the wind.
Our Building System
Scandinavian Design Building System refers to methods of construction that take advantage of modern machinery, computer and factory technology to create a code-compliant home.
Systems-built homes use prefabricated materials, built in a climate-controlled environment and designed to work as a precise system, to complete the home. NAHB’s Building Systems Councils represents the producers, builders, and vendors of the concrete, wood, modular, and panelized home industries.
Both builder and consumer realize the benefits of systems-built housing. Most building systems offer a reduced construction time, allowing for quicker completion and move-in. Building systems also offer more cost control during the construction process and a high degree of energy efficiency.
All Scandinavian components are cut for a precision fit, no waste material. This minimizes the material waste and the need to purchase extra material. All components are manufactured and delivered with a numbering system which can be found in the construction documents.
Its interlocking building system represents the highest level of structural integrity. Its flexible nature provides excellent protection against earthquakes, tornadoes, and hurricanes. Water doesn’t damage the structure and it can be cleaned easily. It is an excellent choice of a structure for flood areas.
All components are connected to make one interlocking structure.
Manufacturing Plant
Wood is Resource Efficient – Wood is part of the permanent cycle of growth, harvesting for use and replanting. However wood’s value as a building material goes beyond its natural beauty and renewability. The best ecological option is to use wood. By using this easily reproducible raw material, energy resources are spared instead of exploited.
Scandinavian Sustainable Building System is affiliated with Pellopuu Oy and solely providing their services in North America. Pellopuu factory represents the latest high tech production line for these homes at the moment.
